Wellness expo, fair or festival: which one do you want?
Three names that get mixed up all the time. They make for three very different Saturdays.
- 01 Expo
You browse booths and listen.
- 02 Fair
You drop by something small and local.
- 03 Festival
You sweat, then hang out.
Why people mix them up
Type wellness expo near me into a search bar and you'll get expos, fairs and festivals all in one list, because the names get used loosely. So here's how we tell them apart, in plain words.
The expo
Picture a convention center or a hotel ballroom with long rows of booths. That's an expo. Brands set up tables, hand out samples and tell you about their products. There might be a stage with talks and a demo or two. You'll walk a lot, you'll listen a lot, and you probably won't break a sweat.
Expos are great when you're shopping, when you want to compare a bunch of products side by side, or when you just like free samples. They're not great if you came to work out.
The fair
A fair is smaller and closer to home. It might be in a school gym, a church hall, a park shelter or your own office for a work health fair. Often it's free. A hospital, a local group or an employer usually runs it, and you'll find things like health checks and tables for local services.
You can see a fair in under an hour. That's its charm. It's a quick stop, not a whole day.
The festival
A festival flips the expo around. The main thing is doing. You take classes, you join a run, you try recovery, you play a game, and the vendors are there for the moments in between. It's usually outside and it usually fills most of the day.
That's what we do. A STRENGTH IN THE CITY wellness festival is a full day of fitness and wellness classes from local instructors, recovery experiences, a vendor village of local brands and a community run and walk. If the idea is new to you, our guide on what a wellness festival is starts from zero.
Side by side
| Expo | Fair | Festival | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main thing | Booths | Local services | Classes |
| Where | Indoors, big hall | Local space | Often outdoors |
| How long you stay | A few hours | An hour or so | Most of the day |
| What you wear | Street clothes | Street clothes | Workout clothes |
So which one?
It depends on what kind of tired you want to be at the end. Shopping tired? Expo. Not tired at all, just a quick errand? A fair is perfect. Good tired, the kind you get after a class with friends? That's a festival.
If you sell something
For a business, the difference is in the crowd's mood. At an expo, people are browsing and a bit numb by the fortieth booth. At a festival, someone just finished a class and is curious about the drink, the stretch tool or the studio at the next table. Our page for wellness festival vendors explains how our vendor village works.

Questions people ask
Is a wellness expo the same as a wellness festival?
No. An expo is mostly booths and talks. A festival is mostly classes and taking part.
Are wellness fairs free?
Many are, especially the ones run by local groups or employers. Check each one.
Do I wear workout clothes to an expo?
You can, but you will mostly be walking. For a festival, workout clothes are the right call.
Is STRENGTH IN THE CITY an expo?
No. We run wellness festivals, with classes, recovery, local vendors and a community run and walk.
